H. G. Bassett and Company was listed as a paper box manufacturer in Birmingham (Derby) in the 1856 Connecticut Business Directory and in 1865 New England Business Directory and Gazetteer (no specific address given in either). H. G. Patrick is identified as a carpentry shop on 1896 Sanborn. Sanborn Insurance Atlases identify the building fronting Main Street only as 'office' in the 1886 and 1892 Sanborns; it is identified as 'water co. office' in the 1896 Sanborn and 1898 Landis and Hughes birds eye view of Derby and Shelton. Later sources refer to it as the office for the Ousatonic Water Co. built c.1880. Converted to first floor stores and upper floor tenements c.1910.
