The main factory for J. Broadbent and Son Inc. was located on the north side of the Farmington River at the southwest corner of South Main and Mill Streets. The company manufactured cotton batting in the early years, adding hosiery and woolen yarns by 1909. The firm operated through at least 1931. By 1941, the main factory was occupied by Myrtle Knitting Mills Inc. and Hartford Spinning Inc. c.1941, and demolished. The facility on Burnham Avenue was the reclaiming department for wool yarn from c.1909 to the 1930s.
