Roughly 150.
Mid 19th to early 20th c.
Consists of roughly 150 single- and multi-family wood-frame residential buildings built by the Ensign-Bickford Co. (#3098) in Simsbury between ca. 1860 and the late 1920s. The majority of the housing stock consists of several standardized two-story vernacular and Colonial Revival designs with either front-facing or side-gabled roofs, however, a limited number of examples from the 1910s and 1920s have either hipped or gambrel roofs. Most are sited in small, carefully laid out developments, such as the groups at Bickford and Davey Streets or Hazelmeadow and Gargan Place, while others, such as those along Hopmeadow and Woodland Streets, were largely laid out over time as needs demanded. This housing remained company owned until the 1970s, whereupon it was auctioned off to private buyers, with priority given to company employees or present residents.
