Associated with the Hawthorne Woolen Mill (#572). Within the district are two single- and multi-family wood-frame houses located on Glenville Street that have been identified as having been built by early owners of what would become the Hawthorne Woolen Mills, as well as a village of residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings erected during the mid 19th through the early 20th century that were intricately connected with the mills but have not been directly linked to ownership. Of particular note is the former superintendant’s house at 6 Glenville Street, which is a Queen Anne-style residence erected in 1886. The National Register nomination notes that some 21 single- and multi-family residences were owned by the Hawthorne Woolen Mills at the time of the 1880 Federal Census, however, these are not identified.
