At least 28.
Mid-to-late 19th c.
Associated with the Greenwoods Co. mill (#3043). Includes 28 wood-frame single- or multi-family residences located along Cottage Street, Hillside Avenue, Prospect Street, and Holcomb Hill Road that are identified as being the property of the Greenwoods Co. on an 1874 map of the area. A number of these share one of several nearly identical designs, most notable among them being the row of ten single-family houses lining the north side of Cottage Street a short distance east of its intersection with Reservoir Road. The company once maintained as many as 70 units of worker housing, however, a number of these, including more than a dozen semi-detached units formerly located north and northeast of the mill, were demolished during the mid twentieth century. Additional working-class housing located in the area (such as along the north side of Cottage Street just east of its intersection with Carter Street) may also have been associated with the mill, however, further research is required to identify these resources.
