Brief Description

For description see National Register application: http://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/NRHP/Text/96000913.pdf.

The village known as Hallville was developed in direct association with the Hallville Mill (#3097), which was established along the Indiantown Brook on the site of several earlier mill operations in 1857. Members of the Hall family began erecting housing for themselves and their workers starting around 1860, this located along Halls Mill Road, Hallville Road, and Hallville-Poquetanuck Road. Fourteen residential structures associated with the mill survive, these being a mix of single- and multi-family residences. A large boarding house is located immediately east of the mill. This was originally built as two identical Italianate single-family residences for brothers Benjamin and Joseph Hall Jr., and was unified as a single structure during the late 19th c.
