Brief Description

For description see National Register application: http://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/NRHP/Text/88000653.pdf. The district includes the mill operated by the Lorraine Mfg. Co. mill (#2695), which was preceded by the Campbell and Babcock Co. and the Crefeld Mills. Both of the earlier firms built worker housing in the vicinity of the mill during the mid-to-late 19th c., this including numerous multi-family residences on Mechanic, Palmer, and Prospect Streets, and the Lorraine Mfg. Co. maintained this housing stock into the early 20th c. The company also built its own housing, this found along Mechanic Street.
