Roughly one dozen.
Mid 19th c.
Consists of upwards of one dozen residential buildings identified as the property of several companies associated with what are now collectively identified as the Portland Brownstone Quarries (#1422) on an 1874 map of the area. Among the quarry companies were the Shaler and Hall Quarry Co., the E. and S. Brainard Quarry Co., and the Middlesex Quarry Co. These firms owned numerous houses along and west of Main Street during the 19th c. and a number of these single- and multi-family residential structures survive on Main, Silver, and Commerce Streets, and Middlesex Avenue Extension. Most are of vernacular design and they include several duplex-style examples.
