Roughly 30.
1827-1830, 1851-1860, ca. 1880.
Associated with the Quinebaug Co. (#2992) mill. Consists of housing developments erected by the company in three phases, these taking place between 1827 and 1830, 1851 and 1860, and around 1880. The surviving housing includes roughly 30 red brick or wood-frame multi-family residences located along Middle Street, Front Street, Tiffany Street, Elm Street, and Quebec Square, as well as the section of South Main Street east of Elm Street. The housing located along and north of Front Street was known as the ‘Upper Village,’ and includes a mix of two-, six-, and ten-family houses. The six eight-family red brick row houses located to the south along Quebec Square were built ca. 1880, and the development’s name reflected the heritage of the overwhelming majority of the residents. The three- and ten-family residences located on the south side of Front Street were also built ca. 1880 and are similar in design to those along Quebec Square.
