Brief Description

For description see National Register application: http://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/NRHP/Text/87002552.pdf.

Associated with and includes the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. factory complex (#3618). Consists of a 255-acre district including and surrounding the plant, the development of which having been largely driven by the growth of the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. More than 800 residential structures contribute to the district, with a notable number of these having been built by two developers, Joseph Sheldon and John W. Bishop, who primarily rented their properties to Winchester Repeating Arms Co. employees. These developments comprise almost all of the houses located along Admiral and Henry Street, as well as those lining the south side of Munson Street.
