Charles H. Kemper (-1896) first established a tanning business in 1835, working out of a wood frame building. With growth of the business under his son, Charles H. Kemper Jr. (1855-), a larger brick factory was constructed in 1893 with an addition in 1913. Operations include tanning and making of hatter's leather, suit case leather, satchel linings.
