This factory was built by Martin Doscher c.1889 for Doscher Plane and Tool Co. In 1908, Consolidated Hospital Supply and Laundry Machinery Co., owned by Westport resident Franklin M. Raymond (b.1846), moved to the site from South Norwalk. It remained in this location, with a name change to Raymond Manufacturing Co., to the 1940s. In addition to manufacturing laundry machines, an electrical department designed automatic safety devices for railroads.
