The company was started in 1940 by three Johnson brothers, two of whom had worked at Pratt and Whitney. All three brothers had started out at their father's gage company in the 1920s; it was subsequently bought out by Pratt. The company manufactures, calibrates and refurbishes gauges that measure screw threads, and owns 60 patents related to screw manufacturing quality control. It supplies the automotive, aerospace, defense, medical and oil and gas industries.
