The Nash family owned acreage on the Stony Brook and created Nash's pond by damming it in the mid-nineteenth century. A sawmill and cider mill operated here since c.1869, and ice distribution began c.1886, when Edward Colt Nash (b.1887) built an ice house that held 25,000 tons of ice insulated with sawdust from the sawmill. The ice business was extensive, delivering 'Island Rock Ice' to surrounding towns and Norwalk. The family homestead is located at 1 Kings Highway North.
