Quoted from 1931 University of Michigan General Register volume 2: The Norwalk Tire and Rubber Company, a comparatively small company in the rubber industry, was incorporated in Connecticut in 1914 to manufacture and distribute automobile tires, tubes, and allied products under the 'Norwalk Gold Standard' brand. The company owns a plant at Norwalk, Connecticut, with an aggregate floor space of 175,000 square feet and an annual capacity of about 400,000 casings. The property includes about 40 acres on the Norwalk River. While the company did manufacture brake linings, until 1930 its main products were tires and tubes, which were advertised and distributed nationally under the name 'Norwalk Gold Standard Tires and Tubes.' The company had 27 warehouses and 7 branch offices, approximately 1,200 dealer accounts, and 52 salesmen. Eighty per cent of the dealers handles Norwalk tires exclusively, and for the other dealers Norwalk tires constituted the principal line. The great majority of these dealers operated superservice stations or automobile accessory stores, and they all provided mounting and repair service... It was also thought necessary to produce various lines of tires, and to list prices high enough to allow large discounts so that the dealers could bargain with their customers...
