According to a Hartford Courant article, the fishing tackle business was started by Truman Skilton in Colebrook in 1875. Skilton moved to Winsted in the early 1890s and built the shop on Upson Avenue in 1895. The shop made fishing tackle, such as snelled hooks and lures, as well as its own packaging and promotional material. It closed c.1987, however as of 1997, it still had the belt-driven machines, printing plates, ledger books and a supply of product.
