John C. (Jack) Usher (1922-2003) was born in New Haven January 24, 1922. He attended Hamden Hall, Hopkins, The Choate School and Dartmouth College, Class of 1945, briefly before being called to military service. As an Army Air-Corps Reservist he was called up to be a flight instructor. After receiving instruction in assault gliders he taught in North Carolina. In 1944 he went into active duty to the South Pacific with the 403rd Troop Carrier 18th Air Force until January 1946. Following military service he married Virginia Westen of Caldwell, NJ, founded, was president and secretary of Usher Aviation, Inc. out of Tweed New haven Municipal Airport for 20 years. He also became president of the New England Helicopter Corp. After selling Usher Aviation in 1966, Jack worked for the Sperry Co. before it became Sperry Rand.
